Need for firmware upgrade
When dealing with Cisco equipment in a network construction project, the engineer in charge has a high probability of upgrading their firmware (IOS).
Regarding the version to be upgraded, there are many cases where you upgrade to the version recommended by Cisco.
Therefore, the following describes how to check the version recommended by Cisco.
How to check the version recommended by Cisco
Check the Cisco Software Download page to see which version is recommended by Cisco.
When you access the page, the following screen will be displayed.
From this page, find the IOS download page for the target model.
Display the IOS download page of the target model
There are two ways to find it.
- Search by model series name
- Search from the model list
As an example, let’s display the IOS download page for C9300-24T-E.
When searching by model series name
Enter [catalyst 9300] in the search window in the red frame of the image below, and press Enter.
Then, a list of models will be displayed as a search result as shown below. Find and click the target Catalyst 9300-24T-E Switch.
On the software type selection screen, click IOS XE Software.
The Catalyst 9300-24T-E IOS download page is displayed as shown below.
When searching from the model list
Click Browse all on the Software Download page. Then, the model list will be displayed at the bottom, so select [Swtches > Campus LAN Switches – Access > Catalyst 9300 Series Switches].
Click Catalyst 9300-24T-E Switch to see the list of C9300 series.
Click IOS XE Software to display the software type selection screen.
The Catalyst 9300-24T-E IOS download page is displayed as shown below.
How to identify the version recommended by Cisco
Check the IOS download page for the target model.
The version list is displayed in the menu on the left side of this screen. Notice the Suggested Release in it. You can see that there is a version with a star (★) mark.
The version marked with this star (★) corresponds to the Cisco recommended version.
When you hover the mouse pointer over the star (★) mark, the following text will be displayed.
